Five-Star Linnets Make It Two Wins from Two

FC St Helens 2-5 Burscough
North West Counties Premier Division
Burscough made it two wins from two to start the North West Counties Premier Division season with a superb second-half display as the Linnets came from behind to defeat FC St Helens 5-2 on Tuesday evening.
The hosts started brightly and took the lead during the first half, before doubling their advantage immediately after the restart to leave Phil Stafford's side with a mountain to climb.
What followed was a response that perfectly summed up the character, quality and belief within this Burscough squad.
Just a minute after falling 2-0 behind, Will Dunne pulled one back to spark the comeback, and before FC St Helens had chance to regroup, Callum Laird levelled the scores with another clinical finish. In the space of two devastating minutes, the Linnets had completely changed the momentum of the game.
With Burscough now firmly in control, the pressure continued to build and Andrew Starkey completed the turnaround with a well-taken goal on the hour mark to put the visitors in front for the first time.
The hosts searched for a route back into the contest, but the Linnets were relentless. Jack Hinnigan added a fourth to put daylight between the sides before Caleb Jones rounded off another outstanding team performance with Burscough's fifth goal of the evening.
From two goals down to 5-2 winners, it was a display full of resilience, attacking intent and clinical finishing.
Six points from the opening two league fixtures, nine goals scored and confidence growing with every game.
Attention now turns to Saturday as the Linnets welcome Droylsden to the EFT Community Ground in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
